The English Language..

is dying in Singapore. no longer are any words safe from the clutches of beng-speak. as per my previous post regarding the word random, every new day sees a new inductee into the ah beng's arsenal of slang words, half of which they probably don't know the meaning of. take for example the word 'twit'.

remember Roald Dahl's "The Twits?"

yeah, that book. the ah beng probably got it pushed into his subconscious during one of the many primary school readings, and pulled it out recently for substitution of the word 'dumb'. 'you very twit leh!', 'what a twit', 'this is clearly twitty' and 'twit language' are some examples of where this poor twisted word can be heard.

what next? 'nincompoop'? 'bozo'? 'supercalifragilisticexpialidocious'? which poor word will be twisted beyond recognition, pulled by its hair screaming from the dictionary into the dingy stank empty warehouse also known as an ah beng's brain?

woe is the english language in singapore.
