Nocturnal.

it's amazing how a group of friends can find something to talk about - even though there's absolutely no topics on hand.

what's even more amazing is how one can pwn people upside down if one is properly fed and energised.

my transformers photocomic's surprisingly popular with over 1k views..
and it's uber fun to do.

one panel for a teaser:

i do not tell people what they want to hear - i tell people what they need to hear.

it's either the truth or nothing.
i don't pretend everything's gonna be alright and tell you that everything's okay if it's not. after all, the world ain't all rainbows and butterflies.

you want someone to tell you things that make you think all's right with the world when it isnt, go to someone else.

oh right, you have already.

Some groups people just enjoy walking in straight lines.
it's horrible.

it takes longer to cross the overhead bridge than to travel 2-3 bus stops on a bad day.
no, it's not because i walk slow or i'm fat.

some morons just decide to walk in a straight line, happily chatting away and blocking the route for EVERYONE behind them.
i spend half the time saying 'excuse me' or just finding a small opening to squeeze through so i can get to my lessons in time

it's great how considerate some people can be, right?

also, one has to wonder: why is it that during peak periods our beloved bus company sends out more single deckers rather than double deckers - especially buses that have heavy loads of students travelling on them?

i see some buses go by nearly empty and here at my bus stop, it's very common to see 2-3 consecutive SINGLE DECKER buses go past completely FULL of students.
then, when peak period's over, 2 double decker buses come at one shot.
unfortunately for we students, we're already gonna be late and marked absent.

might as well take an mc, right?

best thing is, even if you're on a bus which is full to the point opening the doors would be a problem, some bus drivers simply stop at bus stops and INSIST people move in even though there's no place.

bus drivers need to be tested on their perception of depth and space.

Adventurer Or Philosopher?

comparing a friend and myself helped me come up with this:
*NOTE: THIS IS NOT A LAME QUIZ TAKEN FROM SOME FRIENDSTER/FACEBOOK/BLOG QUIZ WEBBIE.*

a guy can generally be classified into either:
the Adventurer or the Philosopher.

the adventurer prefers to go out and explore the world - he learns new things through practical lessons and hands-on experience.
the adventurer also prefers to see the world for himself, and enjoy it as he passes through the various phases of life and the changing surroundings.

the philosopher stays where he is and appreciates the world from a wider perspective - not moving around like the adventurer limits some of his viewpoints, but nevertheless gives him a bigger picture of things and the peace to ponder on them.
he may not have hands-on experiences, but learns more from mistakes others make from what he can see.

i'm obviously the latter - which explains the size.
there can be adventurer-philosophers too - adventurer-philosophers tend to be able to think on their feet and proceed as an adventurer would with the wisdom of the philosopher, but does not possess the full abilities of either.

the hybrid is obviously rarer and more elusive, but they do exist. :)

New Arrivals!

^__________^

Friday, May 16, 2008

we've all grown up, haven't we?
the times of laughter, the fun, the adventure - and now?

dead silence.
awkward speech.

the cold, cold silence.

such irony.
the eternal chase for acceptance gnaws at my fat-entombed bones everyday - but yet i know im accepted and loved.
the feeling just doesn't go away.

i'm still stuck in the past - and it's not about the transformers and comics.
the little spark of hope that the good times would return somehow - restoring things to what they were.

the times when innocence was still a virtue and not a curse.
the times when infamy was frowned upon.
the times when money was not an object.
the times when friendship still meant something.
the times when a pretty face would only get you so far.
the times when being a brother meant that one would stick through thick and thin.

times and people change - some bridges have to be burnt, some have to be built.
problem is, how do i know which ones?
granted, answers come - but i'm not sure which answers are the answers i seek.

the stage is set, the actors cast, the script set in stone - does one resist against the inevitable, try to stop the unstoppable, try to move the unmovable?
does one resist change?

the overwhelming desire to change, to evolve; the desire to bloom.
some things change for the better, and some things change for the worst.
some things can bring joy, but can also bring pain.

the rafflesia is beautiful, but the stench from it nauseates.

the rose is beautiful, but yet its thorns draw blood.

the eagle is majestic, yet it hunts the innocent.

the flames provide warmth and light, and yet they burn and destroy.

the sea provides life and food, but yet it drowns and demolishes.

...
loving and caring for someone can be beautiful, and yet it can kill you slowly from the inside.

it's finally time to take up the torch.
the ropes are snapping.
the links are breaking.

Silences..

it's been said that words can kill - i have to strongly disagree.

silence is deadlier.

after weeks of searching, i finally found the answer i wanted from someone. it wasn't a pretty answer - heck, there was no answer.. but the silence told more than any sentence ever could.

the silence hurt me more than any word ever said against me, and insult hurled at my face, any curse slammed into me.

it cut through me like a hot knife through lard.

NO, ITS NOTHING TO DO WITH BGR. =.=

only today in the Global Day Of Prayer event did i realise something:

maybe i've loved and cared for the wrong people.
people who don't even realise that i love and care for them.
and i haven't loved and cared for those who do love and care for me.

as a wise friend of mine put it: "In a weird, horrible twisted way i think we tend to love those who don't return it even more deeply than those who do - though it hurts."

that sentence sums it all up.
thank you, wise friend. and the other wise friends who were not quoted but were equally as important.

i should start loving you people more.

and i do have to love people who offend me more too.
even though i do get cheap shotted.

comparing transformers to soccer is like comparing coconuts to spongebob.
comparing transformers to my time with God is even worse.

it's like asking if one spends more time praying or sleeping?
if one spends more time sleeping, would sleeping be more important than God?

it's totally two different activities.
for more info on my POV, read this.

but of course, if one is too self-righteous to find out how i feel, then one can jolly well go LLST. (that's lan lan suck thumb to you hokkien noobs.)

what comforts me is that i know the people who understand are the ones who matter. if one thinks ian cheng liang hui is too immature for one's lifestyle, one can go LLSTOT.
(that's lan lan suck the other thumb to you noobs.)

i have people who care for me and love me. =)
cheap shots don't work as well as they did.

don't get me wrong, i still do hurt - my fats dont clog my emotions, FYI.

i do seem to be smiling 80% of the time, but a smile doesn't mean i'm happy, does it?
to quote another wise friend of mine - "you hide your emotions well."
fake smiles are sometimes all one can plaster on one's face.. though frowning's very much easier.

i feel a smile's more apt for more situations than a frown.
as i explained to our dear YC Pastor Darren today - i can react two ways.
1) smile like all's right with the world
2) be sad and emo about it.

nobody really gives a bullpoop about sad and emo people nowadays - so there's no point using (2). i'd rather smile.

why give people the pleasure of seeing their insults get to you, right?
the sadder i feel, the more reasons i find to smile.
James 1:2-7

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
3
because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
5
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
7
That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=james%201&version=31

speaking biblically, if i give in and be all emo, won't the devil feed off my sadness and make me sink deeper into the grave i dug for myself all too many years ago?
most step macho fellas would think such things mean nothing - but to an ugly, fat slob with low self-esteem, this hurts more than any physical injury or wound.

no, i can't confront someone face to face - i gotta do it through my blog simply because i'm better at writing, and i know what i wanna type. i don't have the confidence to speak - hey, what does "low self-esteem" tell you anyway?

in the face of adversity, i will deny the evil one and his pathetic minions my frown.. and delight the Lord with my smile.

i consider this pure joy.. this trial is nothing.

the past was so much more joyful.

Speed Racer

the BEST movie i have EVER watched.

don't let the critics tell you what to watch or not - don't allow people telling you the concept of the movie is stupid - just watch the show and experience the MAGIC.

there's never a dull moment in the film - not a bad moment either. the flow is PERFECT. never have i been so enthralled by the visuals and story in ANY film.
speed racer has been the only film so far where my eyes were fixed to the screen so intently and a smile plastered on my face in pure elation.

sure, i've been told its stupid - to quote a friend of mine: "eh people tell me its mario kart lah". i went in thinking im wasting my time and money.. but after coming out of the cinema, i was speechless and simply grinning like an idiot - it's that good.

the visuals are fantastic - the colours look straight out of anime, it's easy on the eyes and the cgi's CLEARLY seen even though there's so much action and impact on the screen. the cgi looks very believable, each and every detail is painstakingly generated - the whole MOVIE is a visual treat.

the soundtrack's perfect too - never a dull moment, never a misfitted sound. the tunes fit the mood perfectly and it remains true to the anime themes and sounds.

the movie stars Emil Hirsch as Speed Racer:

and the korean singer Rain as Taejo (practically the ONLY asian racer in the show)

(all pictures from wikipedia.org)

the actors play their parts well - the characterization was done perfectly, and their fantastic acting compels one to feel the emotion radiating out from the screen and identify with the characters.

it's an emotional ride too - the storyline's perfectly set out, the twists and turns well placed and the development of the characters nicely done.

through the movie, i found myself rooting for Speed, cringing when he cringed, smiling when he won a race, and the excitement and anxiety gripped me during the final race although from the start one knows the main character would always succeed.

it doesn't matter how old you are - the magic of the film will bring you back to a time where the whole world was an adventure waiting to happen.

NOT watching the show would be something to regret too. the magic happens when one sees the movie on the big screen with the sound booming all around.

the wachowski brothers really outdid themselves this time..

like i mentioned above - Speed Racer's the BEST movie i've ever seen.
compare it to what you will - the matrix trilogy, LOTR, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Batman, or anything else for that matter..

you're comparing those shows to Speed Racer - a show which never drags, never disappoints, delights the eyes and ears, and has a storyline filled with action, romance, comedy, tragedy, and the rarely-found aspect of film that brings one back to one's childhood.

you're comparing those shows to the best show i've watched so far - Speed Racer.

the emo post will be saved for another day. :)

Funnily Enough..

the whole purpose of setting up a blog is to blog right?
to chronicle one's experiences, views and the occasional rant.

apparently the latest trend is NOT to blog and get a cult following visiting and commenting and tagging everyday.

yes, that's right!
start a blog, post for a while and then let it rot!

fan club (almost) guaranteed to fall in like flies over a corpse.
at least, that's how it seems like after looking through some blogs.

apparently updating one's blog will get you lesser views and almost totally no comments.

ah well.

it's amazing that the supposed readership of a few blogs here and there survive solely on the tagboard, having a chance to catch a glimpse of their idol and superstar.

might as well set up "______fanclub.blogspot.com" like some of those mentally challenged punks.

then again it is not a peasant's place to comment.
i'm hardly significant after all. ;)

just for nostalgia's sake:
Iron Man (1996)

The Hulk:

Picture taken from Wikipedia.org
Picture taken from Wikipedia.org

apparently the first 2003 "Hulk" and this year's upcoming "The Incredible Hulk" (their movie posters are shown above respectively) have no link to each other whatsoever save for the titular character.

From Wikipedia.org:
After the 2003 film Hulk, Marvel Studios reacquired the rights to the character, and writer Zak Penn began work on a loose sequel that would be closer to the comics and the television series. Norton rewrote the script after he signed on to star, severing ties to its predecessor by retelling the origin story in flashbacks and revelations.
apparently they weren't too pleased with the first Hulk film, which wasn't produced by Marvel at all (it was . it's a mystery how marvel didnt have the rights to produce a film about the Hulk, being one of their properties..
such is the confounding nature of the law and rights and stuff.

personally i found the first Hulk film a bit of nonsense - every character has to face his 'evil counterpart'.

Spidey / Venom
Iron Man / Iron Monger
Ghost Rider / Blackheart
Daredevil / Kingpin

each of the aforementioned superheroes has an evil counterpart who more often than not has almost direct copies of their powers - symbolic of the inner struggle between good and evil - the two sides of the coin, the ying and the yang, the blah and the blah.

the list goes on. and in the 2003 film, the Hulk fights.. HIS FATHER. what did Ang Lee think he was doing, Star Wars?! preposterous.
a jolly green giant battles his father who gains the ability to absorb properties of materials. no link whatsoever.

in the 2008 upcoming film, the Hulk fights the Abomination.
there we have it.
jolly green giant fights cranky green giant..

perfect.

the tried and true method of hero versus villain / good versus evil / positive versus negative is reinstated in a film that embodies the greatest comic book publisher ever - Marvel.

Mugging – noun
an assault or threat of violence upon a person, esp. with intent to rob.
taken from Dictionary.com
so how is it that the student population in our sunny little island defines the word mugging/mug as "to study for extended periods of time"?
one thing that one must realise - the student population here has tendencies to mis-define words to suit their own agendas or to make themselves seem smarter to their peers.

take the word "cute" for example. ugly but adorable?
this supposed meaning of the word cute was probably created by some jealous air-headed person.

for the word twit, see here.
Cute - adverb, noun
1. attractive, esp. in a dainty way; pleasingly pretty: a cute child; a cute little apartment.
2. affectedly or mincingly pretty or clever; precious: The child has acquired some intolerably cute mannerisms.
3. mentally keen; clever; shrewd.
taken from Dictionary.com
ugly is the COMPLETE opposite of cute.
once again, a mis-definition. singaporeans twist words far beyond their intended meanings.

Anniversary
1.the yearly recurrence of the date of a past event.
2.the celebration or commemoration of such a date.
3.returning or recurring each year; annual.
taken from dictionary.com
which part of YEARLY do people not understand?
"oMg DeArZzZ tIs IsHh OuRr 1 mOnThX aNnIvErSaRyzZXzxZXz. lUrBzZx EuuUu."
kills your brain doesn't it. 1 month/2 month/half a year anniversary? someone get these people a dictionary.
anniversary DOES NOT EQUAL the commemoration of a stretch of time. it means A YEARLY COMMEMORATION of something.
duh.

no, don't argue with me about the words being slang. it doesn't work that way. how often does one see air-headed people going around spreading those mis-defined meanings?
practically the whole student population defines the word "cute" as "ugly but adorable".. and it's only spread further as each day comes.

once again, this proves that the english language in singapore is dying..
and there is nothing we can do to save it.

it's amazing how a language develops over hundreds of years only to be crushed in the hands of a few bengs and lians.

do tell me of any additional words if you can think of any.
