ARGH.

it's 5.09 am. i have just completed reflective journal entries #1 and 3 for Persuasive communication.

that leaves the resume to be done. problem is, i know jack about doing up a resume. i don't even know how to do type the funky letter e with the little dash on top. and i'm dying. the red bull is wearing off, and the bed next to me is emitting a strange magnetism that draws my head to the pillow. gravity is pulling my eyes shut and making my hand stick to the keyboard.

the rest of my comrades valiantly struggling with their assignments now would agree greatly with this statement.

"there is no day or night for a poly student."

resistance is futile. you will be assimilated. all your base are belong to us. do or do not, there is no try.

there is no spoon...

and nothing else to scoop up, for that matter.

if i disappear tomorrow, and i'm uncontactable, and anybody reads this, i'm in a better place..

Trust..

is a funny thing.

Trust (definition from dictionary.com) :
1.reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence.
2.confident expectation of something; hope.
3.confidence in the certainty of future payment for property or goods received; credit: to sell merchandise on trust.
4.a person on whom or thing on which one relies: God is my trust.

fragile and thin, it still manages to bind the strongest relationships together in a way that they cannot be broken.

and yet, at the right spot -in a split second- it can be irreparably destroyed.
what is it, then, that compels one to trust another?

life gives us no reason to trust anyone.
murders, theft, kidnappings and whatnot - it plagues this world, infests people and leaves them rotten inside and out.

how then does one even want to start trusting somebody?
what initiates this high-risk venture?
and how does one define trust?
something so fragile, yet strong - how does one hold on to it so tightly?

how does one ensure complete trust in something?
why does one even want to trust something?

logic debunks things.
emotion sways one's thinking.
but yet, trust is able to overcome them both.
logic- the very thing that keeps us thinking.
emotion - the very thing that keeps us human.

how is trust more powerful than both of them combined?

trust is such a mysterious thing, no?

Perfection?

disclaimer:
this is NOT a rant, nor does it target any person in question. take it as what you will. if you aren't happy with this post, go hug your pillow and pet monkey. it isn't offensive in any way.

and if this touches one's nerves, one had better think twice about what is mentioned here.

perfection is an endless pursuit - chasing the dragon, if one wills.

is compromising to a certain extent a crime?
one cannot possibly expect to please everyone.
surely some compromise has to occur.

how does one understand that compromise may not necessarily be submission?
Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego compromised.
they had to take new names, new homes, and new lives.
but not once did they submit to the world.
they compromised where they had to, but they never succumbed to the pressure.

refraining from a certain measure of compromise is nearly impossible in this time and age, unless one is anything short of being the proverbial hermit in the mountains.

taking everything seriously/literally does not go down well. each and every statement by any one person which is remotely illegal in one's eyes is shot down with much evidence and no oppurtunity to refute the statement.

why then does the pursuit of perfection become numero uno priority?
this very pursuit deposes any good intention or priority that has previously been number one.

justification of this pursuit won't work either.

granted, one does not have to support everything morally gray or wrong that one's friend says. if the friend does something wrong, he/she would then deserve it.
however, if one does try too hard to refute any such statement, to find fault with anything not according to one's rules or principles, one ends up stumbling one's friends as well.

people have or are going to affected in some way or other.
either way, somebody's gonna step on one's toes too often if one keeps one's feet in the way.
to quote: damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

DISCLAIMER. DAMNED AND DAMN are NOT the same thing.
and this isn't being used in a context where i'm damning anything.
THIS.IS.A.QUOTE.

DICTIONARY.COM:

damned [damd] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation adjective, superlative damned·est, damnd·est, noun, adverb –adjective
1.condemned or doomed, esp. to eternal punishment: the wailing of damned souls.
2.detestable; loathsome: Get that damned dog out of here!
3.complete; absolute; utter: a damned nuisance; a damned fool.
4.Informal. extraordinary; amazing: It was the damnedest thing I'd ever seen.

damn [dam] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –verb (used with object)
1.to declare (something) to be bad, unfit, invalid, or illegal.
2.to condemn as a failure: to damn a play.
3.to bring condemnation upon; ruin.
4.to doom to eternal punishment or condemn to hell.
5.to swear at or curse, using the word “damn”: Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!

if everything's all fine and dandy where everything's perfect - wake up.
it obviously isn't.

on a final note:
there is a HUGE difference in being ashamed of something and avoiding being a public nuisance. one has to discern what one is.

the real world awaits.
life isn't a fairy tale where everything has to end happily ever after.

how does one hold a lit candle in the darkness if one does not dare step into the darkness with a lit candle?

Of Long Roads and Long Conversations..

whoo boy ian, you've messed up BIG TIME NOW.
i forgot to do the online quiz this week. ARGHGHHGHG.

self pwnt.

and there are a million other things to do by mid-week.
imma kick myself.

hard.

anyways, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR DARYL OOI. ^_^
one year closer to the Lord!

its amazing how a broken bike part can lead to a long conversation between friends. such things don't come along that often - "nothing happens by chance", as quoted.
and its amazing how therapeutic looooooooong walks can be if you're with a friend.
its really good catching up.

its nostalgic just remembering the brawls and good ol' days in secondary school.

especially the brawls. XD

'nuff said.

Of Photoshop and Pin Pin..

great. photoshop's gone from my com. and i can't get it back.
this bites.

mmprin is going nowhere. pin pin isn't helping us much.
we're done for.

so photoshop and pin pin's outta the way. i just had to put a snazzy title in. XD

it just occurred to me how many websites/blogs/adverts are such a waste of bandwith.
including mine, if you will.

just how much space is there on the net?
or is the notion of limited space simply an elaborate scam to purchase domain names?

/end conspiracy theory.

i swear, my tagboard's dead.

dead.

edit: its 3am now and i can't sleep.

DISCLAIMER: NO, THIS IS NOT AN EMO EDIT.

its kinda amazing that no matter how many friends one can have, there still can be times when one can feel broken and so very much alone.
but its good to know you have friends you can count on, friends who love you, friends who will stick with you though thick and thin.
ones that will go to tuas and back for you, even. ;)

and i mean real friends, not the ones which paint a pretty peekture, but then when it all boils down they NPNT.

a simple poem:
(boy, they're getting rare nowadays. the inspiration isn't coming like it used to.)

through times thick and thin
friends will be there
to tide you through trouble
and take away every care

i'll be there for you always
you can count on me
i love you much as a friend
and your friend i'll always be.

thank You for the friends i have, Lord. =)

Urgh.

photog is turning out to be a very expensive subject.

Developing photos in 4r - about $4
Two 8r Photos - $10
Film - $5++

my wallet is as light as a feather.
after today, i dare say that grades are paid for.

--------------------------------------------------
I saw a totally disgusting sight at the ITAS canteen today.

Figure 01.

Figure 0.2

as you can see in Figure 0.1, there's a table FULL of bags.
Figure 0.2 shows the owners.

TWO different tables are occupied. This takes being an ugly singaporean to a whole new level.

Disgusting.

Its people like these who make you feel ashamed for even being in a 10 metre radius around them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

and now for a more positive part of this post.

this is Ian Cheng's weight now.

NO, this is not somebody else.
NO, i did not step there only with one leg.
NO, this is not photoshopped.

there were witnesses.
HUZZAH. EIGHTY-EIGHT KG FTW.
100 - 88 = 12.
Twelve. Douze. Shi Er.

Gone.

and to those who asked - no, i don't know how i did that.

HE. IS,

BEOWULFFFFFFF.

awesome show.

*a little note before i continue.*

RIGHT CLICK IS NOW ENABLED ON MY BLOG. whoopee. now you can tab stuff.

i've been addicted to an "Umbrella" remix by Chris Brown - Cinderella.
the player on my blog's on shuffle, and i've sadly hidden it. so if you do get the song playing, good for you - enjoy some wholesome remixed good ol' R&B. Umbrella's a classic i tell you.

it sounds good - so sue me. percieved "carpet" music or not, it's still good stuff. give it a listen if you will.

the CGI is totally awesome. if one didn't look closely one would expect the movie to be life-action. highly recommended to those ABOVE SIXTEEN. (sorry kiddies, you'll have to miss this one out. =P )

Beowulf is hilarious, and as ben put it - "totally power metal.".. just without the power metal. XD

what "Beowulf" was before it became a movie:

WIKIPEDIA - "Beowulf is an Old English heroic epic poem of anonymous authorship from around AD 700. Its creation is typically assigned by scholars either to the period AD 700–750, or to the time of composition of the only manuscript, circa 1010. At 3183 lines, it is notable for its length. The poem is untitled in the manuscript, but has been known as Beowulf since the early 19th century."

you can find a translated version of Beowulf here.
go read it before you go watch the movie - that is, if you have the patience and understanding to read it through. ;)
Wiki entry here. read to find out more.

i watched Beowulf with jared, isaac, ben, bryan and gab soh...

*Reminiscing post warning - stop reading here if you're allergic to what some people might call mild emo-ing. I call it reminiscing. so there. ;)*

...it's been long since the cavemen went out like this.. certainly brings back the memories.

jared made a point today that struck me much.

memories will always remain memories, and nothing more.
the past will always remain a past.

long gone are the times where we were still 14, "exploring the world", as some call it. ;)
long gone are the times when we were still in room 22 having cell.
long gone are the cavemen.

in its place - new paths cut out for us.
new bridges built.
new friendships forged.
out from the meadow into the wilderness and beyond - this time with new comrades.

side by side, we march as one body. familiar faces, but yet strangely distant after some time.

we may have moved forward from strength to strength..

but never shall we tread into the meadow again.

those were the days.

LOL.

There once was a knight and a fair maiden
Who came across a wall
'How will we get over?' the maiden asked
'It is so very tall.'

'Fret not, fair lady'
The knight said
And then he vaulted on top easily
'Here, take my hand,'
He exclaimed
We'll be over in a jiffy!'

'I'm afraid,'
The maiden said
'Whatever shall i do?'
'Take my hand and trust me,'
The knight whispered
'I'll always be there to catch you.'

So she stretched out her hand
And held him tight
And he carried her across
'Thank you, kind sir,'
'Always, fair lady, always.'
Thus ends the poem that never was.

HAHAHAHA.

i was bored. sue me.

kudos to mel for the basis of this idea.

WHAT HAPPENED TO COLONEL SANDERS?!

look at this.

just look at it.

COLONEL SANDERS IS WEARING AN APRON!
they made him look like some mama's boy. an APRON. a RED one no less. what is he, ambassador for singapore?

i'll bet he's spinning in his grave.
...
...
...

ANYWAYS.

we went to botanical gardens today to take draft pics for photog. despite the LOOOOOOOOOONG walk mr prabakaran made us go on, it was a pleasant experience. =D

this is where we were:

and this is where we went.

this here's MAYO STREET. we saw it in the bus while travelling to botanical gardens. now we know where mayo comes from. XD

the flowers there - such amazing colour - just shows His creativity and works.
pictures cannot fully capture the wonder of it all.

dedicated to my Lord:

All the colors of the rainbow

All of voices of the wind

Every dream that reaches out

That reaches out to find where love begins

Every word of every story

Every star in every sky

Every corner of creation

Lives to testify

For as long as I shall live

I will testify to love

I'll be a witness in the silences

When words are not enough

With every breath I take

I'll give thanks to God above

For as long as I shall live

I will testify to love.

Amen. =D

Happy Deepavali!

and happy whole morning of sleeping as well.

my bad throat and cough have almost healed. thanks for the prayers and such. greatly appreciated. =) its nice spending a whole day stoning in front of my computer and suddenly realise: "HEY! i haven't coughed yet!" the phlegm's still there though. but it's going away.

i realised something today. * i can hear people crying out "FINALLY!" many many times while reading this. lol. *

i live such a... fortunate life.
snoozing away while farmers toil away at their fields.
while the birds struggle to catch their worms.
while the mice risk life and limb for scraps.
while the worms eat poo and dig endlessly to survive.
while the cells in my body fight endlessly against the cold germs.

it's such a cool day. no rain too.

peace abounds.

life is good...

God is good.

worthy

You are worthy.

PHOTOGRAPHY. KILLS.

photog lectures kill the brain, i swear.

"class, do you know how to take a picture? do you know where the shutter button is?"

gahhhhhh. me want no flashy lights and lens. me want sleeeeeeeeeeeep.

have you ever encountered bus drivers who just INSIST of stuffing every last person outside the bus inside that crummy little space? y'know, the ones who scream "MOVE IN, MOVE IN! LAI LAI! MOVE INNNNN!" even though it's painfully obvious that moving in is IMPOSSIBLE. the ones who stop at each bus stop for ten minutes insisting people move to the back.

or maybe the aunties in the bus who assist the bus driver in his eternal quest to pack the bus like a tin of sardines? "LAI LAI XIAO DI, QING NI JING QU AH. KUAI DIAN, JING QU!" and the groups of aunties who drag around a HUGE trolley just to carry a little bundle of vegetables and COMPLAIN that people are taking up space.

"world class transport system" my blubbery hiney.

Waterlogged.

waiting for 20 plus minutes in the rain for a cab is NOT a good thing.

please excuse the blindingly obvious typo on my previous post. it's been edited after... much criticism. XD yes yes i KNOW it was 2-2. i took a picture lah. your fingers don't work well when your brain's burning.

anyways, here's part 2 of the stayover pics..

AND the anniversary service plus the Come Bless The Lord service.

note the many many pictures of daryl ooi. the camera wasn't in my hands when it took all those pics.

the new sanctuary and chapel's beautiful.
God is awesome in this place. =D

of notable mention: the mellowgreen service. =D

old people are cute, aren't they? haha!
i shall go and bathe now.

Though I've little strength
Though my days are few
You gave Your life for me
So I will live my life for You. =)

Cough and Splutter.

i'm in joshua poh's house as i type this. today the cell went to aaron's gig somewhere at kovan.
suffice to say, we were the ethnic minority.
pictures are blur because i zoomed from far. i dared not step in for fear of incurring the wrath of the ethnic majority there. use your imagination.

then i went to joshua poh's house where they watched the Man U - Arsenal match. it ended 2-2. not that i was interested.. but i did get some interesting pictures. it's intriguing how much joy is derived from seeing a ball enter the goal.. especially when you're a gazillion miles away.

the post will be updated more tomorrow.. and more stuff added.

Friday, November 02, 2007

Urghghgh.

my throat's killing me.
i think i'm gonna throw up in percomm tomorrow.

here's a new BOB3 wallpaper i made for you guys: msn me for the actual file.

note: siva had to be whitened a bit due to him not being able to be seen so it looks a bit artificial. no insult intended.

huzzah. BOB3 forevaaaah.

watch this video about 'emo'. it is clearly not me. haha.
XD and pay attention to the words at the bottom for laughs. ahha.
